SQUEEE!!!! She’s like a tiny little super cute princess!!!!

4 Iris 12.08.06 at 6:25 pm

Oh my god, it’s sooo cute! I love it~ ^____^

5 A thinker 12.08.06 at 6:27 pm

Teehee. Veddy schweet little mop o’ guinea pig here.

Does it remind anyone else of those My Little Ponies who needed their hair styled?

6 Arvay 12.08.06 at 6:28 pm

I only met my first smooth-haired piggie as an adult. As a kid, I wondered how anyone would want a pet that you couldn’t pet properly due to all the cowlicks!

Hehe.

I’m a piggie, big and chubby, what can I eeeeeeeeaaat?

7 Theo 12.08.06 at 6:28 pm

Hairpiece??

1) Go look up “merkin”
2) Giggle
3) Scold Theo because he is naughty

8 AuntieMame 12.08.06 at 6:29 pm

Are you sure they didn’t cross a guinea pig with a silky terrier?

9 ShelleyTambo 12.08.06 at 6:30 pm

OH MY GAWD!! How DARE Meg post a pic of an obviously underage Guinea pig being tarted up with a SPARKLY clip? Sitting in a woman’s LAP with BARE SKIN in the background no less! It’s SHAMEFUL.

(kidding)

10 Golden 12.08.06 at 6:30 pm

hahah.. It’s a

Yorkshire Guinea!

11 Golden 12.08.06 at 6:33 pm

ShelleyTambo:

HA!!!!

12 ceejoe 12.08.06 at 6:35 pm

OMG! A piggie! And I’ve been waiting to tell all the CO peeps that I’m a new piggy mama!
I adopted two little brother piggies from the humane society!
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
And my little boys have cowlicks too – only not as dramatic as the little princess’s here… their hair is not so long.

13 Kristen 12.08.06 at 6:35 pm

OH my GOD. its hair looks like it belongs to a human. alyson hannigan, no less. and i love it.

14 Fish Eye no Miko 12.08.06 at 6:37 pm

It’s a toupee with a face… O_O
Heh.

15 Golden 12.08.06 at 6:40 pm

TEHO!!!!!

hhhaahaaaaahhahaaaa

16 ShelleyTambo 12.08.06 at 6:45 pm

Golden, those come-hither eyes might be the beginnings of a pout worthy of a scantily dressed prostitute reclining on a street lamp. (Bonus points to anyone who knows that that’s from)

Actually, that’s about the color of my hair, and I have been looking for a fall. (And it must be said, for my HEAD, Teho.)

17 NebraskaErin 12.08.06 at 6:48 pm

Who’s a pretty girl? Who’s a pretty little princess??

(Let’s hope that’s a girl piddy, anyway! Although there’s nothing wrong with dressing up a boy…my mom and I used to put my brother in dresses and barrettes when he was little. Hee hee!)

18 Arvay 12.08.06 at 6:49 pm

ceejoe, congrats! Errr, conpiggies!

You know what you call a HOTT girbun?

A harepiece!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

19 raymi 12.08.06 at 6:49 pm

wtf ahahahaaa

20 NebraskaErin 12.08.06 at 6:50 pm

Oh, and it should be mentioned that the little piddy and I have about the same hair color…

21 Aubrey 12.08.06 at 6:52 pm

Heather S., I loved Baretta!

“Don’t go to bed, with no barette on your head
No, no, don’t do it.

Don’t do CO,
without your peeps in tow,
Yeah, don’t do it.

And keep your eye on the piggie.
Though its hair looks wiggy!

Don’t do it, don’t do it.

Where can I go where the Nuffings don’t blow,
Now.”

22 Theo 12.08.06 at 6:53 pm

ShellyT — well, I got the reference, but only because Google’s still my bitch.
Never saw the show.

(OOH I’m naughty today.)

23 pyrit 12.08.06 at 6:54 pm

I dream of guinea?

24 AuntieMame 12.08.06 at 6:55 pm

1. Looks up “merkin.”
2. Raises eyebrows.
3. Teho, naughty!

:-0 :-)

25 Theo 12.08.06 at 6:55 pm

;-) Pyrit:
“…with the bright orange hair,
“Floating like a merkin
“Atop legs done with Nair”

(apologies to S. Foster)

26 pyrit 12.08.06 at 6:55 pm

Where I come from, that is called a spout. The hair pulled up on top looks like a whale’s spout. Well, makes sense to a pirate.

27 Redzilla 12.08.06 at 7:12 pm

Okay, peeps, what you’re looking at is what I, Redzilla, would look like. Same hair and about the same number of cowlicks.

Maybe this is piggy is my love child? Oh, except I’ve never had relations with a piggy. I swear on my merkin.

(Shame on you Theo for broadening my horizons like that.)

28 ShelleyTambo 12.08.06 at 7:15 pm

Teho, perhaps the best show ever (the original British series, not the horrible American version). Def not good family viewing, though.

29 Jen Barnett 12.08.06 at 7:16 pm

Whew. Something to cleanse my retinas from the jailbait prolifer with the ironic collage of fertility symbols draped against the pro-life poster.

30 Jen Barnett 12.08.06 at 7:17 pm

Uh, a little redundant there; guess I’m still a little verklempt.

31 Zhandarq 12.08.06 at 7:21 pm

Teho said:

“Hairpiece??

Yah, I thought the same thing. This particular merkin looks like a designer “original” for both/either Kathy Griffin and Clay “Achin’.” Er, available in either an “Upstairs” or “Downstairs” model.

Either way, from either/both of them, the quote is the same: “It’th *relly* hard to talk through all thith hair.”

(Wow, gak, pththpthppththtt, it’s like cat hairs in my mouth, talkin’ like that.)

I’ve got your naughty, and I raise you one slightly ick … more if you push me, dammit.

32 Sylvia 12.08.06 at 7:34 pm

I’ve never had a guinea pig, so I didn’t know they have such long…. HAIR!

Yes, because that’s what I would with them if I had one as a kid. Different hairdos. Poor things.

Pic is sho kewt and funneh!

33 Nicolas 12.08.06 at 7:35 pm

The Paris Hilton of the guinea pigs :-)

34 layla 12.08.06 at 7:47 pm

What a beautiful piggie! And such pretty hair!

I just wanna pick her/him up and rub my face in all that cuteness.

35 katerpie 12.08.06 at 7:49 pm

Peegies are so cute. Do they like cuddling though? Something that cute, I must cuddle.

36 ami 12.08.06 at 7:54 pm

yup. they’ve got lotsa cowlicks. they’re called rosettes, iirc from when i owned a guinea pig.

37 pinupkate 12.08.06 at 7:58 pm

awww, she’s just like my little penelope was when i tortured her with little hair ties. i miss my little wiglette…

38 Becky 12.08.06 at 7:59 pm

I don’t want to be a “Beauty School Dropout,” so before I’m even admitted, I’ll practice on my pet rodent. She’ll be the guinea pig. (Get it?)

39 Arvay 12.08.06 at 8:04 pm

Becky, guinea pigs aren’t rodents! They’re… they’re… they’re something else! :D

40 equus 12.08.06 at 8:08 pm

Oh! What a lovely, clean, shiny chestnut guinea pig! *sigh* I wish my guinea pigs were as well-groomed as she is!

It’s an area rug!

42 Golden 12.08.06 at 8:17 pm

I’m DYING with laughter..

I love the piggie and I love her hair and I love you people.. oh here I go again..

43 rpennefe 12.08.06 at 8:22 pm

Continue to dream, Arvay, for someday your dreams may come true.

I doubt it, though.

Guinea Pigs:

Order: Rodentia (Rodents)
Family: Caviidae (Guinea Pigs)
Genus: Cavia (Guinea pigs, cavies)

(I embrace my inner nerd…always!)

44 Arvay 12.08.06 at 8:25 pm

Wow! No kidding! I guess you really do learn something new each day! I apologize. I stand corrected, and edjumucated! Thank you!

45 Golden 12.08.06 at 8:28 pm

I learned that Guinea Pigs were rodents and what a Merkin is.. I must say.. it’s been a full day.

46 NebraskaErin 12.08.06 at 8:36 pm

Now the real question…who on earth would need and/or use a merkin? Why would someone come up with such an invention? What is the history of such a thing?

Or perhaps I really don’t want to know…

47 Meg 12.08.06 at 8:44 pm

i wonder if the piggie would let me borrow that clip…it’s waaaaaaaay cute!

48 ShelleyTambo 12.08.06 at 8:46 pm

NEErin, while researching the history of nail polish a few years ago (don’t ask), I read a lot about the history of makeup in general. In earlier centuries, much of it was used to cover scars (syphilis, smallpox, etc.), and merkins were created for the same reason. Or such is one theory, anyway. More info: http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a3_232.html

49 Aubrey 12.08.06 at 8:47 pm

NebraskaE, only because I care:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkin

Remember, Knowledge Is Power.

50 Tony James 12.08.06 at 8:47 pm

Merkins? Isn’t that the nationality that George W Bush claims to represent? I thought I heard him say the other day that “merkins will never surrender to turrsts.”

51 Theo 12.08.06 at 8:50 pm

TJ — now that you mention it…

52 lurkertype 12.08.06 at 8:59 pm

Exactly, Teej.

Aubrey, I will be singing “keep your EYYYYYYYYEEEE on the piggy” in my head for the rest of the day. In the appropriate Sammy Davis Jr. voice, of course.

53 pyrit 12.08.06 at 9:02 pm

Teh guinea piggie is in disguise, shhhhh, it’s really Cameron Diaz:

http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/1/1a/Cameron_Diaz_Something_About_Mary.jpg

54 lurkertype 12.08.06 at 9:02 pm

Oh, and if you click the “cowlick” link (say that 3 times fast!) Meg gave, also check out the sidebar on “mullets”. As long as we’re talking scary hair concepts.

55 luvmutt 12.08.06 at 9:03 pm

i have never wanted a guinea pig until today. now i want one just like this one to carry around in a nice handbag.

56 Martha in Washington 12.08.06 at 9:05 pm

Aubrey-I really did NOT need to know that about THAT!

btw, I’m jealous of all you peeps with hair (on your head) that is the same color as the piggie. I’ve always wanted to be REAL redhead.

57 pyrit 12.08.06 at 9:05 pm

Golden – You *have* had a full day, here’s your slippers and a drink. Dinner will be ready soon. And could you take out the garbage first?

58 HeidStar 12.08.06 at 9:08 pm

Honest to cute, I totally thought this was a plush (toy) animal!! I’ve never seen guinea pigs with such luxurious hair. Do they come packaged with tiny hairbrushes to go with the little hairclips?

59 Heather 12.08.06 at 9:11 pm

Hi people,
love all your comments. I’m the piggies “mom”. :) Actually she doesn’t need much grooming besides a haircut every month. That’s why she has a barrette. Her hair flops right over her eyes. And she does love to cuddle! And run around the room at break-neck speed. Ha! She is a peruvian piggy, that’s why her hair is so long. And she’s a guurl, of course. ;)

60 NebraskaErin 12.08.06 at 9:12 pm

Martha in Washington: “btw, I’m jealous of all you peeps with hair (on your head) that is the same color as the piggie. I’ve always wanted to be REAL redhead.”

I never said my haircolor was real. ;) However, most people are surprised it’s not my natural color.

61 Mary 12.08.06 at 9:12 pm

After looking up Merkin, I was ready to giggle (but didn’t) until TJ’s comment which caused a true guffaw (startling my coworkers, by the way, who normally never hear much from me besids grumbling under my breath.) I’ll have to be careful or I’ll be caught.

Thanks for the guffaw.

62 HeidStar 12.08.06 at 9:22 pm

Heather your piggie is beautiful!!! Now, thanks to your comment & a little websearch I’m more edjumacated about guinea pigs. Who. Knew.

http://www.peteducation.com/article_print.cfm?articleid=2838

I kinda doubt my cats would view them as anything other than “prey” so my own piggie ownership days are far off indeed. Dang!

63 Robbie 12.08.06 at 9:25 pm

This year’s hottest new toy: My Pretty Piggie!

64 ShelleyTambo 12.08.06 at 9:35 pm

Martha in WA, my hair is this color and it is in its natural state at the moment (when I went red, I went REALLY red). Sadly, piggy’s highlights are better than mine. But trust me, having the strawbery blonde/red hair and the accompanying Fitzpatrick type I-II skin isn’t always fun. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to have a nice olive complexion.

65 Redzilla 12.08.06 at 9:41 pm

I feel your ShelleyT. As I said, this is what I would look like as a piggy. I have to keep my hair long, because it’s the only way to hide the cowlicks.

Oh, and I was thinking. A friend of mine used to date a guy with some kind of crazy hereditary full-body baldness. He didn’t even have eyelashes. (Even my nekkid kittehs have eyelashes.) Maybe he could have used a merkin to go with his rather perfunctory toupee.

66 ShelleyTambo 12.08.06 at 9:46 pm

RedZ–pale red/blonde girls of the world unite! I think all my available body pigment went to the mole in a slightly personal spot.

67 pyrit 12.08.06 at 9:51 pm

Heather! Are you here at CO? You need to click on *another* bookmark! Hint, hint!!!

68 DLT 12.08.06 at 10:06 pm

oh, wait….

69 Theo 12.08.06 at 10:10 pm
70 Anne 12.08.06 at 10:14 pm

I think Donald Trump would look like this guinea pig if he didn’t use a ton of hairspray. And it’s almost even the same color! LOL

71 DKN 12.08.06 at 10:14 pm

Two words: Hair Clip.

’nuff said.

72 Kristie J. 12.08.06 at 10:18 pm

I’m going out right now to get some barettes for my kittehs! Why didn’t I think of this before?

73 Anonymous 12.08.06 at 10:37 pm

Pyrit..

I already have my robe and slippers on, so the garbage is your deal. I fed the dog, though. I’m all about being fair.

74 Golden 12.08.06 at 10:51 pm

Pyrit–ha.. NOT sure what happened there.. that’s me posting about the robe and slippers..not somebody anonymous…..

75 HeidStar 12.08.06 at 10:54 pm

Robbie! L@@K!!!

76 emily 12.08.06 at 11:10 pm

p.s. all the pictures are getting so many comments these days. apparantly CO isnt a well kept secret anymore

78 Bob King Neverland III 12.08.06 at 11:30 pm

My niece would KILL for one of these.

79 danceswithcrows 12.08.06 at 11:45 pm

Aw, such a *cute* Abysinnian pig!

HeidStar, though you said your cats would view a guinea pig as prey, remember that a full-grown pig weighs at least 1 pound. A 1-pound pig is big enough that most domestic cats won’t want to hunt it. At least 3 cats totally ignored (or were afraid of) my smaller-than-average guinea pig Samantha.

The 4th cat’s reaction was like this:
Sammy–(runs right up to cat, sniffing and meeping)
Cat–What is this thing? It’s too big to be prey. Er, maybe I’d better bat it on the head.
Sammy–MEEP! (runs off)
Me–NO!
Cat–Right, maybe I’d better leave the little fuzzball alone.

…YMMV though. When introducing the pig to the cat(s), *make sure* the pig’s a few months old and at least twice the size of a mouse, and keep a close eye on them.

80 anomalous4 12.09.06 at 12:41 am

It’s so keeeee-YOOT!!!!!!!! (and I’m not into such expressions – that ought to tell you something =grin= as does the fact that I visit this site at least 3 or 4 times a week)

I love piggies. One of my brothers and I each had one when I was in junior high They were the “cowlicky” kind too. (My sister used to pronounce it “callick.”)

We had to give ‘em baths every once in a while. They looked almost as draggly as a cat in the bath (I had one of those too – he was taken away from his momma too soon and never learned to wash properly).

I love the noises they make. That purr is priceless!

think the first time I saw a smooth piggie was about 5 years later.

81 Aubrey 12.09.06 at 1:13 am

anomalous4:

3-4 times a week? Don’t worry – we’ll soon get you up to speed.

Purring Pigs = Priceless

82 Piggalette 12.09.06 at 2:29 am

Theo: I lol’d at the merkin. Hell, I’m still “s-merkin.”

83 useta hada kitteh 12.09.06 at 2:32 am

I, too, also, as well, have become edjumacated, thanks to that pet education website HeidiStar linked to. Who knew there could be so many kinds of piggies in the world? I think the Teddy one looks like someone stuck three different colored pompoms together. Either that or fuzzy pop-beads. They are delightful! Binny pigs. And they purr????

84 Piggalette 12.09.06 at 2:34 am

TJ, you are too hilarious! I laughed so loud that I startled my cats.

85 Mina 12.09.06 at 2:43 am

Thats no guinea pig, thats a YORKSHIRE TERRIER!!

86 Subhangi 12.09.06 at 5:15 am

LOL, what a pretty piggie!

*scrolls down*

*looks up “merkin” while raising eyebrows suspiciously at Teho*

Oh MAN.

What a WAY to start the morning. LOL.

*scrolls further*

*reads TJ’s comment*

*ROFLOL*

TJ, you’re pure genius!

LOL, peeps, thanks for improving my vocabulary and brightening up my dismal day.

87 soxfan 12.09.06 at 5:22 am

Mina wrote:
“Thats no guinea pig, thats a YORKSHIRE TERRIER!!”

‘Zactly right Mina! I have a pretty pretty princess pup (okay she’s seven years old, still a pup!), complete with barrettes. At first glance, I honestly thought that sweet piggy was a Yorkshire Terrier in need of a combing. :o )

Also, my grandmother’s name was Mina. You’ve triggered some very happy thoughts for me. Thanks!

88 Robbie 12.09.06 at 5:53 am

DLT and Heidstar:

I’ve got this piggie puppet:
http://www.amazon.com/Folkmanis-2120-Guinea-Pig-Puppet/dp/B0007QO472

It doesn’t have a posh barrett, though.

89 Mina 12.09.06 at 7:45 am

Hi Soxfan…glad u liked my comment. Thats exactly what I thought it looked like was some weird yorkie!! :D Thats cool that your grandmas name was Mina. Mina is my nickname but Ive had it for 10 years now! Its kinda grown on me. ;)

90 Martha in Washington 12.09.06 at 8:28 am

The peteducation link is fantastic…
The Peruvian is unreal. I don’t believe there is an actual live animal under all that hair.
The White Crested is wearing a little toupee!
The Texel is just redonkulous! IWANTONEIWANTONEIWANTONE!!!

91 Tammie in Nebraska 12.09.06 at 1:55 pm

Now this is the kinda “cute” I come to CO to see!

Love, Love, Love this stylin’ GP!!

92 ShelleyTambo 12.09.06 at 2:23 pm

Oh man, first sign of spending too much time on CO: having dreams about it. RedZ (who looked strangely like my friend Lydia) and I were having lunch with Teho to discuss hair color and how to make the most of it. Teho looked strangely like an older version of the “is she or isn’t she legal” chick from the buns and boobs post. Also involved were a reincarnated 18-year-old girl who wanted to marry the wife of her previous incarnation and a tricked out golf cart. No more Cinnamon Toast Crunch right before I go to bed.

93 geisha 12.09.06 at 2:54 pm

not cowlicks, “rosettes”.
my friend breeds & shows g. pigs. yes, goes out of her way to match pairs to get 10 perfect rosettes per pig…..er, cowlicks…per pig.

(rosette -noun 1.any arrangement, part, object, or formation more or less resembling a rose.)

94 Theo 12.09.06 at 3:40 pm

ShellyTambo –
…whoa.

(btw, I liked the streaks idea. Run with that.)

95 Theo 12.09.06 at 3:41 pm

PS to ShellyT — here’s your tricked-out golf cart!

96 Kritter 12.09.06 at 4:59 pm

What a gorgeous piggie! I love piggies! More piggies please!

97 ShelleyTambo 12.09.06 at 6:40 pm

Teho, I was talking about the golf carts with someone last night, and apparently you can get ones that are like ‘57 Chevies and Cadillac Escalades (!)

Streaks, huh? Maybe I’ll look into that.

98 jaypo 12.09.06 at 8:56 pm

What a cute piglick! No improvement needed…

99 Diane 12.10.06 at 2:08 am

Oh My God! That is the wildest thing I have ever saw. But one of the cutest little scutters on the whole darn web.

100 LB in Cali 12.10.06 at 2:50 am

LOL!!! Redonk!!!

101 Xtinebee 12.10.06 at 8:26 am

Yay! My cavy is *covered* in cowlicks! Hence her professional name- “Princess Bad Hair Day”.

*Hugs the sweetness of cowlicked cavies*

102 Mia 12.11.06 at 10:20 pm

OK, ShelleyT, I give up…which British show? I love the comedies…and great hairstyle on this piggie, BTW!

103 ShelleyTambo 12.12.06 at 2:17 pm

Mia, it’s a line from “Coupling,” series 3, episode 2 (I think) (“Faithless”). Said by Jeff, of course, who has almost all the best lines.
