  14. Karen says:

I think this was taken at the Bronx Zoo… I recognize the rocks in the background :-)

  15. pyrit says:

Polar Beears are beautiful in many ways. One problem, they say, “I will leeeeek you” backwards.
    “I will keeeeel you.”

  16. Kelley says:

Squeee!! Giant pawsitude!! So cute, yet so deadly.

  17. anon says:

this totally made my morning! what a cute set of pictures. someone please domesticate polar bears immediately so that I may have one as a pet!

  18. balsamicdragon says:

OMG, I think I know this polar bear! He was on a baby animal show, “Growing up Polar Bear” I think? He had been rescued in Alaska after his mother was killed. I remember it because he had this blue barrel that he _really_ loved, and when they sent him to a zoo they asked him to give him a bigger blue barrel to play with :)

  19. Subhangi says:

Pyrit, they don’t even say it. They just go ahead and leeeek us backwards.

  20. greenighs says:

    Polariffic!

  21. Renee says:

Thank heavens for cutie pie bears… they make a bad day good. :o (
Going to go cry some more… boohoo

  22. Elizabeth says:

Yay for people with my name having adorable pictures posted on CO!!! (Also an Elizabeth B.) And for the giant pawses of dooom! The paws that refreshes.

  23. pyrit says:

Subhangi – You are right. Polar Bears are all, “Talk to the PAW.”

  24. Redzilla says:

It’s like he’s auditioning for a Seaworld job. He’s like: “Check it! And I can throw the barrel up like this and I can…”

  25. Tracy says:

    Looks like SeaWorld in Australia…

  26. NebraskaErin says:

Precious! Polar bears are so playful, I love watching them at the zoo.

  27. Sara says:

    Polar bears are deadly!

Also deadly are koalas, but I still want one! I’ll just stay out of the reaching range of the gigantic deadly claws!

  28. A thinker says:

    Polar bear toys!

This reminds me of horse toys, an equally incongruous concept. Something about giant animals playing with toys is slightly silly.

  29. Missa says:

    Hahaha …

I dare someone to try to stick one of THESE in their rack.

  30. Allison says:

    Polar bears are the BESTest!

  31. Redzilla says:

“I dare someone to try to stick one of THESE in their rack.”

Oh, Teho…I think the chopping gauntlet has been thrown down.

  32. Caroline says:

Is that the polar bear from the Baltimore zoo?

  33. Kit says:

I lurve the polar bears. Especially the lazy polar bears. The active ones… even moreso. Look! He’s a-movin’!

  34. Polar bears: cutest unstoppable killing machines ever

  35. c says:

actually, i am pretty sure it is San Diego. notice the lack of green in mr polar bear’s coat. They were the first to put in a saline water system for their polar bears. it looks like that enclosure.
Cute Cute Cute. this site makes my day at work better.

  36. fournik says:

Is this Aphun from Anchorage Zoo?

  37. Theo says:

[trying not to notice RedZ's/Missa's hints]

  38. Arvay says:

Everybody seems to think this bear is their bear!

My newfie’ll look a lot like him! Awww! I can’t wait to get my newfie!

  39. Rafael says:

The bear sure works hard for the money.

    PB:”I’m money baby! I’m a star!”

  40. missir says:

I’d love it if this was Magnet from Baltimore, but I don’t think it is… the exhibit isn’t quite right. It’s going to be really tough to tell because lots of zoos use similar materials in their exhibits (grey rocks) and for enrichment (big blue kegs). Very cute pictures!

  41. Courtney says:

hey ceejoe, I say ‘ehn’ all the time too! Ever since Meg captioned that Japanese flying squirrel taking off and saying, “Ehn!” Gets me every time.

  42. Elizabeth B. says:

Oooff, go to class and everybody tries to claim the bears. Karen wasn’t far off actually – these were taken at the Central Park Zoo last summer.

  43. Lillith says:

Ha ha!! So its OUR bear with Mr. Blusey McBarrelsons. They are purty bears but I’d never try to pet one let alone let it near my rack! ;)

  44. JH says:

    OMG! Too CUTE!!

  45. pookiepuff says:

Aww! It looks like he’s saying “I love you barrel!” in the second picture. I wish I could go swimming with him! ^.^

  46. pookiepuff says:

So I only now read the captions because I was so overtaken by the pictures at first, and I realized he’s already saying he loves his barrel. hehe!

  47. jennifer11 says:

    he’s so adorable.

    and i now i want a coke.

  48. Darron Flaugh says:

Can i have Him for a pet Please.

  49. daisycat says:

Random Polar Bear Fact: Polar Bears fur is actually clear. Their skin is black to attract the sun for warmth so their fur is “clear” to light the sunlight through. Because there is so much it appears to be white…We will now return you to your regularly scheduled cute.

  50. daisycat says:

sorry that should have been “let the sunlight through” not light. I’m a tard. :)

  51. Lisa says:

That upper picture is just… I cannot even find words for what it is. *happy*

  52. layla says:

They are so cute when they start playing in the water. We were at the St Louis zoo, watching a bear playing with a giant ball in the water.
He’d roll it up the side of the pool, to the top of the ‘hill’, then with one solid “bap!” of his head, knock it in, the belly flop on it.

A crowd watched him, and would applaud a good polar belly flop.

We could have sworn that the bear knew what applause was, because he’d do something else cute, then look at the crowd like, “Well? Wasn’t that cute enough?”

    Such playful guys!

  53. musicchick2 says:

balsamicdragon – I saw that “Growing up…Polar Bear” on Animal Planet too. ^5′s for Animal Planet! And a mighty “SSCCOOORRREE!!!” for Mr. Polarbearisons

  54. JH says:

Something just popped into my head. Has this bear ever dropped his barrel on his head?

  55. Jon says:

i recognized it as the central park zoo immediately – my girlfriend and i were there last spring and were treated to the male polar bear doing a very naughty thing to himself!

  56. fancyclaps says:

Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears! Bears!

  57. Martha in Washington says:

Jon, I once saw a walrus at the Pt. Defiance Zoo in Tacoma try to master his domain. It was very weird especially with all the little kids asking “Mommy, what’s he doing?”

  58. redbone says:

    ~o Iiiii don’t wanna work!
I just want to bang on me drum all day! o~

  60. Persephone says:

So awesome! I’ve secretly wanted a polar bear for a friend ever since reading The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman. Except I guess it’s not a secret anymore…

  61. Elena says:

living proof that you don’t have to be small to be completely adorable.

  62. cool_catnip_buzz says:

Cue the “Sabre Dance” music. The bear looks like he’s spinning the barrel in mid-air.

  63. Cat says:

Oh, Layla, I want to go to the St. Louis ZOo! do they still feed the bears at 4 pm?

(will always remember teh twin child lemurs and teh patient elder lemurs)

The Tulsa Zoo had an excellent polar bear inclosure outside it ws him and his pond. Walk inside (it was a whole building exibit on the artic biom) and that side of his tank was plexiglass.

  64. Tangomama says:

Is it GUS, my beloved Gus from the Central Park Zoo?? Oh I’m sure it is!
