Cast-tastic paw exten-shon?

by Meg on November 9, 2006

Why in the world is his cast so…long!? He could fit an extra paw-length in thar! Maybe that’s what happened—he had a paw extension. It happens.

Awwww! Definately cute but sad!

2 Peg of Tilling 11.09.06 at 4:39 am

Yes, a paw extension…so he can fit his paw like a wee puppy Dremel of destruction! Mixing chihuahuas and power tools…will humanity never learn?

3 Peg of Tilling 11.09.06 at 4:45 am

Um…I meant to say “fit drills and saws and other accessories into his paw like a wee puppy Dremel of destruction!”

Poo. Joke blown. Never mind.

4 Daisycat 11.09.06 at 4:56 am

I weel kees and snorgle an make eet aaaalll bettah, shmoopy whoopy cheewaawaa!!!

5 Wendy 11.09.06 at 4:57 am

I think the cast is so long to keep the wee one from putting weight on it. Of course, that cast must weigh a ton!

Uhm, sorry about your joke, Peg.

6 Peg of Tilling 11.09.06 at 5:07 am

Thanks, Wendy.

Please picture the puppy with a small circular saw buzzing at the end of his arm (perhaps he’s the official pup of the New Yankee Workshop). Would you give him treats? I think so.

I hope the puppy gets better soon.

Poor little Chi-woe-woe.

And Peg, that makes me think of Inspector Gadget. Just think of what that pup could do.

8 cheryl 11.09.06 at 5:28 am

poor pup. i think the extra-long cast is there to maximize the autographing opportunities on that there tiny handful of sad cuteness.

9 Mona 11.09.06 at 5:32 am

10 AlbertaGirl 11.09.06 at 6:25 am

13 April 11.09.06 at 10:03 am

poor pupster.. he’s just gonna go in circles if he tries to walk on that! he needs a stilt for the other leg.. that is if his feet ever even touch the ground! He’d be in my arms, 24-7. :)

14 A thinker 11.09.06 at 12:29 pm

PofT, I still thought it was funny.

Poor pupster has such very sad and earnest eyes. Even being no fan of the cheewowos, I would still hug and kiss him.

15 emnnat 11.09.06 at 1:03 pm

cute or sad? category?? poor leelte puppie… :(

16 brackman1066 11.09.06 at 1:20 pm

They often put very long casts on kittens and puppies–they grow so fast at that age that you have to allow extra room. My kitten had to have a cast on a forepaw at 6 weeks, and it was also very long when they put it on–but not when they took it off!

17 arbed 11.09.06 at 1:45 pm

aha – I’ve often thought that the casts looked extra long when I’ve seen pics of little animals wearing them – now I know

18 Lauri 11.09.06 at 2:04 pm

Great explanation, brackman! Thanks!

I hadn’t thunk of it! :P

19 NebraskaErin 11.09.06 at 2:38 pm

Def. cute but sad. What happened, wee Mr. Chihuahua? Wee kisses on the wee nosicle!

20 Teri 11.09.06 at 2:58 pm

Even on CO I learn something new! I had no idea about casts and kitten/puppy growth rate! Makes perfect sense though.

As for this little fellow, poor darling, he needs many treats and the plushest of beds, preferably right next to his momma/poppa where he can get kisses and skritches every minute.

21 Julie 11.09.06 at 3:20 pm

This is too funny. When I first saw my mom after her wrist surgery, she was dopey from the anesthetic and had a gauze cast of similarly ginormous proportions. She was completely confused by it, and kept asking what had happened, why was the cast so big?

I think the intern who came in to rewrap it summed it up best… “Holy CRAP! That’s one big cast.”

This adorable pupulence made me laugh out loud with the memory. And no worries, my mom’s ok now, this pup will be, too, though it may be a few months until he can knit again.

22 Laurie C 11.09.06 at 3:25 pm

When I broke my ankle at 17, I had an enormous cast as well (in circumference, not length). All the nurses at the hospital could tell with one glance who my orthopedic surgeon was by the size of the cast.

23 Lauri 11.09.06 at 3:26 pm

Heeeee, Julie! :)

24 NebraskaErin 11.09.06 at 3:27 pm

Laurie C – when I broke my ankle at age twelve, the cast went all the way up to my hip!

25 Laurie C 11.09.06 at 3:29 pm

NErin, get any hardware? I wound up with a plate, two pins and 8 screws. But they took it all out again 6 months later.

26 pyrit 11.09.06 at 4:18 pm

One thing I can’t handle – human pain stories. I can handle pets at the vets – been there done that, boy have I ever. But mention broken people bones – I’m gone – like
gone. Er, best wishes however, and all, yeah.

27 LB 11.09.06 at 5:05 pm

Peg, I get and you are on to something….

“Go go gadget____________!” (insert appropriate or inappropriate tool of mayhem here)

28 LB 11.09.06 at 5:07 pm

sheesh, I get it, that’s what I was trying to say. I’d better get back to work now. I’m CO’d.

29 Aubrey 11.09.06 at 6:18 pm

LB,

Many times has this site delivered me C.O.D. (Cute Overload Distracted)

Pyrit,

You mean you don’t want to know about the time I broke a bone in my foot and it swelled up to the size of a tennis ball? You sure about that? ‘K.

30 Peg of Tilling 11.09.06 at 6:24 pm

Go go Gadget Dough Hook!

Sorry, stepping away from the mixer…

31 pyrit 11.09.06 at 6:34 pm

Sorry to hear that, Aubrey. WELL! I, I got a thing, yeah, I’m late, see ya.

32 Theo 11.09.06 at 9:04 pm

Peg O’T! I’ve got the mixer that’ll fit that in my Bat-Belt!
(No, that was NOT a come-on.)

33 Peg of Tilling 11.09.06 at 9:14 pm

Is that a mixer in your Bat-Belt or are you…oh nevermind.

It’s holiday baking season! Hurray!

34 K A M 11.09.06 at 9:57 pm

Oh goodness! Haha. Kinda reminds me of the time I had a little run-in with a piece of glass. The doctor went a bit crazy with the cast (yes, a CAST) and I left the hospital looking like I had broken every bone in my arm. Now, I’m not-so-much a fan of pity, and the following week I got enough pityfull looks to last me three lifetimes.

35 Aubrey 11.09.06 at 10:44 pm

Peg – holiday baking season? You got that right! Last night I made blueberry creamcheese bars. Who wants?

36 Khallisa 11.09.06 at 11:00 pm

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

37 LeFox 11.10.06 at 12:46 am

Allow me to be the first to say:

Itsawawa! Poor little guy.

38 Subhangi 11.10.06 at 4:01 am

MAJOR puppy-dawg eyesitude there.

39 Kcat 11.10.06 at 4:13 am

Poor little pupster!
Aubrey – blueberry cream cheese bars!!??? Are there any left???

40 Aubrey 11.10.06 at 4:49 am

I got some in the fridge right now. Where you at? And will I be able to throw them that far?

41 Rich Fader 11.10.06 at 5:35 am

“Steempy! You EEDIOT!”

42 Aubrey 11.10.06 at 6:15 am

That cast extension suddenly put me in mind of ‘The Evil Dead’. Could the hua hua be channeling Ash? Groovy!

43 Peg of Tilling 11.10.06 at 2:20 pm

[Raising hand for blueberry cheesecake bars] I’m thinking pineapple-cheese casserole for the office Thanksgiving lunch, and some peppermint pound cake closer to Christmas.

44 Laurie C 11.10.06 at 2:57 pm

I want to start some Christmas baking this weekend – a really light type of shortbread cookie. If I can only carve out some time…

45 Aubrey 11.10.06 at 5:36 pm

Peg:

(pushes away cookie catapault in favor of bar blaster)

FIRE IN THE HOLE!

LC:

Light? BAH! Last night I made cookies with a shortbread base, sure, but I topped it with a mixture of cashews, hazelnuts, almonds and pistachios coated with honey and brown sugar. I’d fling a couple, but I’m afraid it could dent a building or two if my aim isn’t perfect.

46 Laurie C 11.10.06 at 5:41 pm

Mmmm, Aubrey, yours sound divine. Mine aren’t some low-cal abomination, though, they’re just light on the tongue, in fact they’re called Melting Moments. Proper butter and icing sugar in them and everything.

47 Winter 11.11.06 at 5:13 pm

Aww :( Poor baby. :(

48 Jack 11.13.06 at 9:27 am

I don’t think the cast is very long, I think it’s the camera angle. The tip of the cast is very close to the lens, so it appears a lot bigger than it is. Also, compare the other front leg, it is basically as long as the cast. It helps if you put your fingers up to the screen.

49 Not Cute 12.13.06 at 5:42 pm

That is so sad and the Cat one too…………… sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad *trails off sayig sad*

50 Evie 07.06.07 at 11:13 pm

I dont know what the heck it is but it was probabaly very sad and very ouchy! Hey Hey I know what it is its a extended paw treatment!(maybe….)
=[ I feel so sad…….
