With a turtle name like "Wesley", you pretty much HAVE to go with a macho costume on Halloween. I bet all the turtle ladies in the tank are like—"OMG, who’s the hottie?" and whipping out their little Turtle Sidekicks to text him.
Reegahdless, Wesley has snapped up Best Turtle Costume on the Planet Ever as far as I’m concerned. Also, I think his nose has a hole in it. Just sayin’.

Yup. Looks like he’s smiling to me, too. I didn’t know turtles were camera hams. I’ve always thought turtles were cute, but this little guy is the best.
P.S. I’m trying to trap five kittens and a mom cat living behind a museum near work before it gets any colder outside, so please keep your fingers, toes and everything else crossed for luck. Tried catching them over the weekend, but all we got was a chomp on my helper’s finger.
I’ve seen turtles in my time, and that IS a turtucular smile if there ever was one. LOVE it.
Aoife, if you aren’t using a live animal trap (they come in kitten size), maybe ask your local Humane Society or cat rescue group if you can borrow one. Good luck!
Aoife, good luck and please be careful. If you’ve been following lurkertype’s posts, Mr. LT got chomped by a feral cat last week, got all infected and nasty. Gotta be careful. We’re all in this together!

the smuggest smile ever
gotta say, I loff him too.
I’m borrowing two live traps from the shelter I volunteer at, and I’ve got an experience cat trapper helping out. Four of us are scheduled for trap checks throughout the day, and the museum caretaker said he’d check the traps at night.
You know why he is smiling? Look closely. In just 2 seconds a bubble is going to develope slowly out of his itty bitty nostril. It will grow slowly, quietly, and then, just as the teeny guys in the toy boat float overhead, (still singing), the bubble will have reached critical mass, and will *POP*, flipping the boat over, flinging the little dudes into the water.
Wesley will then snack heartily!
Jaypo, fortunately my helper’s wound didn’t get infected. It’s already healing up nicely, and she’s game for another go at those babies.

Aoife, I’ve trapped a mother and feral kittens in a dog crate. Cover it with a blanket and tie a rope to the door and thread it back through the crate and to your safe distance location. Put lots of food in the back farthest from the door. When they go in to eat (and they can all fit in together so they are less suspicious) pull the rope and slam that door shut. It sounds silly but I swear it works. Now there is a bit of trouble transporting a dog crate full of feral cats. But you’ll figure that part out.
Close the beach!!! Does the little boat have scuba gear?
Mr. LT went to the dr. again and got a big shot-o-antibiotics in the butt. He has to go AGAIN tomorrow or Wed. Sigh.

Well. This is just too much. Perfect antidote for the incessant political advertising on radio/t.v./billboards/phone messages?? I really wish politicians were included in the “do not call” evil people. Election day cannot come too soon.
I once tried to catch a stray one-handed. I thought my cat had gotten outside and tried to grab her with my one free hand. She got away, and I was really pissed. Got inside to put own all my stuff and go out after her, found kitty relaxing on my bed, and flipped that I could have just grabbed a possibly wild stray. I found out later that it was my neighbor’s outdoor cat, but man he acts feral when strangers are around!
Darcy — Your confusion is understandable. Shark fins aren’t actually curved; this turtle’s wearing a fin salvaged from a decommissioned dolphinbot. But shark jokes seem to have more universal appeal, so what the hey.

As for the feral cat’s, got bit and scratched by one, thinking it was mine when i was about 10. Had to undergo rabies shots for 4 days before they found and captured it, and determined that it was indeed not rabid. NOT FUN!!!Good luck to both U, and kittehs.
I worked with a guy once who still had the little turtle he got from a pet shop as a kid. The turtle was 25 years old and lived in his house as a member of the family, went outside with the kids, and slept in the bathtub.
Also, something to keep in mind about handling the kitters, feral and otherwise: When you grab a cat or kitten by the scruff of the neck, it triggers what’s called the “kitten response,” causing them to go limp as if mama cat is carrying them. Works most of the time unless Mr. Kitty is very aggressive and upset.
How very clever…he has fooled you into believing he is merely a shark trying to be a shark, when truly he is— A SHARK IN TURTLE COSTUME JUST WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO TRY TO PET A CUTE TURTLE!!!!! notice the smug look on his face.
