Mini-geckage

Totes!

Teeny "Houdini" the leopard gecko is like, just about to slurp his own eyeball to keep it moist. Nice mini smile and shiny nosicle.

Slurpitude

Stacy G., tiny gecko-golf claps to you.

  1. Bettymouse says:

I looove geckos! Noisy little buggers, though…

  2. But does he have an English accent like the Geico gecko?

  3. TheLoveOfIsis says:

I kinda wanna kiss his nose!

  4. A thinker says:

Hims is a cute Mr. McLizardsons, him is.

  5. Aw, c’mon! What’s a gecko photo without those mahvellouse fingers and toes?

  6. such pretty pretty eyes! and that lil’ nosie! *bumps noses with the lil’ geckmeister*

  7. Geckos are noisy? I ferget, what kind of noises do they make?

  8. Lauri, they push car insurance.

  9. Hahahaha, now that much I did know, Arvay!

  10. I can see that this smile
    Of this tiny reptile
    Possesses no guile
    But plenty of style

  11. NebraskaErin says:

The wee self-satisfied smile! Evidently he’s just sold another policy.

  12. GeorgiaGirl says:

    Only slightly off-topic:

Anybody explain to me why the advertising wonks thought the Geico gecko should have an unintelligible Cockney h’accent? The dude’s got GREAT moves and expressions but I can’t unnerstand ‘arf o’ wot ‘e says.

/Oh dear, I appear to have caught it./

  13. Well, I was just in a car accident and Geico has been veryvery good to me. But I haven’t seen the gecko yet dammit. Why couldn’t I get HIM to look at my car and give me my estimate?

  14. Aubrey – How do you come up with these gems so quickly?

This is little guy is much cuter than the Geico gecko. Prolly sells more policies too.

  15. Aubrey — for a wee minute there, I *thought* you’d misspelled “possesses” and “guile” but now I see that I was mistaken.

    Headache’s a little better.

  16. Great face!!

GeorgiaGirl: do you remember that when the Geico gecko first came out he had a proper British accent? I think they decided he was to posh sounding for their product…

  17. A thinker says:

GeorgiaGirl: I recall reading an article about it not too long ago. Details are fuzzy, but I *think* they picked a Cockney accent so he’d seem down-to-earth and likeable, not too posh.

At least, that’s what I remember…anybody can correct me who recalls it better.

  18. darn…”too posh”…

  19. Well, T., I actually did look up the spelling of both words…I was THAT close to posting the rhymette with ‘gile’ included.

If the headache still hurts, Holden gave me some pink pills…he said they were Pink Pad-vils and then laughed (purred, actually). Interested?

  20. A thinker says:

Mia, great minds and all such…

  21. I’m so there, Aubrey. Gimme a sec.

  22. Holden gave me some Ibupurrfens, some Meertrins, and a bottle of Fukitol.

  23. Remember Waiting for Guffman with Chris Guest? E’o ‘ow a’ ‘u?

  24. A Fine Morsel says:

Love the moist nosicle, and charming reptilian smile.

  25. Good news/bad news update on the MexKits. Unfortunately, two of the girls died, Paloma (calico) and Frida (grey & white). They were severely malnourished when caught, and these two were just too far along to be saved. Forunately, the remaining three kittens and momcat are thriving. I took a few pics, none really in focus because I didn’t want to use the flash and scare los gatitos. I’ll try to get some better ones later.

  26. “teeny Houdini”, snert, snert.
    A teeny Cockney Houdini genie.

  27. snoopysnake says:

Leopard geckos have the sweetest little smiles and are even cuter when they are asleep and dreaming sweet dreams. I love the Geico gecko, too.

  28. Good pics, Aoife.
Sad about the girls, but good that the others are ok.

  29. I swear his eye looks like the Eye of Sauron in Lord of the Rings…

One gecko to rule them all…

  30. The photos are lovely, Aoife. News of the two kitters is sad, but you have the thriving three, and that isn’t bad at all! Good luck with them and let us know how they progress.

  31. I’m sorry, but I have to do this just in case people missed it the first time. Aubrey, please forgive me for what I’m about to do.

A guy walks into a bar with a little lizard on his shoulder.

The bartender asks “Is that a gecko on your shoulder?”

“Yep it sure is, his name is Tiny.”

“Really? Why is his name Tiny?”

    “Because he’s my newt.”

HA! I never get tired of that one. But you all probably do…

  32. (gets up and comes after AmyH with brulee torch aflame)

  33. What do you call a newt with three eyes?

    A niiiewt!

  34. AmyH, I liked it.

And for the mexkits, they’re lovely, sorry about the two but the others and mama are in good hands and that’s great.

  35. “She turned me into a newt!”

    “I got better!”

  36. EEEP! Bahahahaha!

[runs from flaming-mad Aubrey while giggling with glee]

Funny how we still do things we know we’ll be punished for later…

  37. Ahhhhhh! What a cute wee leopard gecko-eee-ecko.

  38. GECKAGE! Thank you Meg! I’ve been waiting for more cute lizarding types.

  39. juggle geese says:

wow the head ist about the size of the thumbnail. Are they that tiny or is that not an adult? And I’m with Arvay. The feet are the best. Weren’t there actually some experiments where they measured the energy to lift a gecko from a glass plate?

  40. heehee! my behbeh is famous! how exciting :) juggle geese, that photo was taken the very day we rescued the little guy, he was just a baby then, and the picture is from when my dear hubby had to feed him a “gecko formula” through a baby syringe because he was undernourished. he’s much healthier and bigger now :)
here’s another picture of him, you can see the change in his coloring and a better shot of his little smile: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shadowmousey/55875515/

  41. Wooo, Stacy, he looks downright leering in the last photo! Lovely! :)

  42. Stacy – beautiful. I am geckage wreckage.

  43. lurkertype says:

Poor little Buho, w/o her sister! The eyes!!

I <3 Diego. Not-too-bright tuxedo cats are really, really good, if they're sweet-tempered.

    Mamacita is lovely!

  44. lurkertype says:

Oh, I would buy insurance from this lil’ guy, but not the one on TV. He’s such a chav.

Went out today dressed as (drum roll) a tuxedo cat! Long-sleeved tuxedo print t-shirt, black pants, B&W shoes, kitty ears in my hair. No makeup or mask. Still had 3 strangers tell me I was cute.

  45. fridgedicebunny says:

    Geckos… aren’t noisy. O_o

  46. AuntieMame says:

LOL, Stacy. In his grown up picture he looks so earnest. I’d buy insurance from him in a heartbeat! :-)

  47. uh yea. geckos arent cute

  48. cute is in the eye of the beholder elise – yes he is cute!
Aoife so sorry about the kittens – glad you are taking care of the others, poor little babies they are really sad – but soon to be very happy in your care I know!

  49. elise is a nuffer!
    elise is a nuffer!

    Ner, ner, ner!

*just learned about that word yesterday*

  50. acelightning says:

If there can be such a thing as a disapproving smile, that little feller’s got one. But the eyes and the tininess make up for the disapproval.

  51. This little guy is kewt but I can’t stand the Geico gecko. why should he have a foreign accent at all? I mean, if he could drive he’d wanna drive on the wrong side. I’m just sayin.

  52. Just remember, ceebs, what’s “foreign” and “wrong” to one person is “normal” and “right” to another. Just sayin’.

  53. TANGENT ALERT!

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061031/ap_en_tv/tv_bob_barker_retires

and now back to the geckos

  54. Wow, Bob, you go! The man is 83! He’s awesome! :)

  55. thinker-
lol,as far as i’m concerned, there’s no such thing as normal

  56. leprechaun says:

Not sure if I’d call it “cute”, but that’s a cool picture.

  57. Bob is also a champion of spaying and neutering your pets. I hope people listened to him.

  58. musicchick2 says:

Geckos ARE noisy. I’m not sure I can describe it correctly, but you know how you can make that loud clicking noise on one side of your mouth? Kind of what you might do when calling the dog? THAT’s the noise geckos make. I lived on Oahu for 2 1/2 yrs and they’d be on the outside of the window, waiting for a snack to fly by. And you could see through them! Sorta… They sneak into the house too….all the time. But they eat bugs so nobody minds

  59. musicchick2 says:

    This is a better explanation:
“Geckos are unique among lizards in their vocalizations, making chirping sounds in social interactions with other geckos” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gecko

  60. Cool Gecko!

  61. musicchick – i’ve had gex for years, specifically leopard gex, and mine rarely vocalize unless EXTREMELY stressed.

Stacy – gorgeous little boy. :)

Elise – just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t. my leos are anerable, and this one’s right up there with the cuteness of my girls. i wish people who immediately say “OMGEEEEWWWWWWWWW” had the opportunity to meet one of these little gems. i guarantee you’d change your mind.

  62. fainfenix – (spluttering) you’ve had what for years? With leopards? (wiping coffee off computer screen). Ho! It’s a g.

  63. Kweet geckapoo!

Pyrit – LOL! I mistook that ‘g’ for ‘s’ too!

  64. Oh, Houdini, I am enchanted by your eyes. I send you magic keeses on the nose. [beep]

  65. Aw, Aoife! Sorry about Frida and Paloma, but yay for the other three and Mamacita!

  66. Aoife, very sad about the bebehs. Maybe they left to give more life to the others…

Stacy, Houdini is just off the charts cute! That pic of him is all like “‘Alo, mate, glad to meetcha!”

  67. freetomato says:

Responding to slightly off-topic. I have a theory about why the Geico gekko has the cockney accent.

I live in Georgia. Several years ago I dated a Brit (with the requisite cockney accent) who worked for Geico. Part of his job was phoning customers in the Southeastern region. He called a woman in Kentucky one day – she asked where he was calling from. When he replied “Georgia” she said “Oh, I could tell from your Southern accent!”

  68. FreeTomato, that is sad and hilarious.

  69. Hila!!!!! You took my joke!
I was gonna talk about the Eye of Sauron too. Tssss.
Well, I’m gonna say it anyway:
“The Eye of Sauron is watching youuu”.
    Nah! It’s done!

  70. ceebie jeebies says:

LOL A thinker…but my point is, he’s british and selling American car insurance. I’d rather buy it from a sophisticated caveman…uh not really.

  71. MC2: My computer at home is broken and I’m sad. If there’s any brulee left, can you fling it my way?

ceebie jeebies: the caveman campaign is unusual, to say the least. And kind of funny.

  72. “I’ll have the roasted duck with mango salsa”.

  73. I love that commercial. The longsuffering look on the caveman who has lost his appetite. (ape-etite?)

  74. ooooh.. I had a leopard gecko named Houdini too!

used to escape all the time!

    he was so cute :)

  75. shortestrose says:

fainfenix said: “i’ve had gex for years, specifically leopard gex, and mine rarely vocalize unless EXTREMELY stressed.”

Exactly right! We’ve had Chomper for about year and SuperStripe for about 9 months. Chomper has a the cutest little bark when he’s really really mad (he so didn’t WANT to have his house cleaned that day) and Stripey sort of hissed at me once. I’d been filling her mister and she’d hooked her tail over the edge of her aquarium (she’s a climber). I gently nudged it back inside and she turned around and hissed at me. It was SO cute. I was surprised, because I’ve picked her up and played with her, with no response, but then she started shedding the next day. Sometimes gex get a little cranky when it’s shedding time.

We don’t tell them that they’re cute when they’re being all fierce though, we tell them they’re brave and fierce an RAAR and stuff…

  76. Lauri: I really like the new one where he is going through the airport and sees the ad.

  77. wolfwhocriedboy says:

    **Happy Cold-Blooded-Cutness Dance**

    Love. This. Lizzy. :-D

    P.S. B.E.R.C.C
    Big ears are CUTE coalition!

  78. wolfwhocriedboy says:

P.S. (why do I never seem to get everything in ONE POST!!)

I LOVE the GEICO adds. They continue to be creative and funny in a sea of mediocrity (worse than mediocrity, really)

I WILL NEVER SHOP @..(enter OLD NAVY HERE)… several places whose adds are lamentable and lazy. Erm… I didn’t actually mean to mention a real company here but, REALLY! It needed to be said. ;)

  79. shortestrose – my girls only click at me when i’ve woken them up from a nap. my younger girl sometimes talks to herself, but it’s a very rare occurrance indeed. i’ve never had a hiss or bark from either of them, and my Delirium has managed to nip me only once…when she was a month old. i can’t tell you how cute i find it when this little lizard thinks she’s being all fierce. i want to love her to deaf!!!

  80. I want one!!!!

  81. cheeseypoof says:

um… does it look to anybody else like this gecko is climbing on some guy’s nuts

  82. baskinglizard says:

eeeeee geckoface! :) Houdini looks a lot like my leo when she was tiny. Extremely cute!

As for making noises, she squeaked loudly at me once, when I was trying to get her out of her travel container into an aquarium. But she hasn’t done it since. I have heard her making little tiny sounds on occasion, though.

  83. oh!!! i like that kind of species so cute an friend one…
