Awwww…that is just too precious. Not too hard to stick a flower on a hedgehog! Everything’d stick to those spines!

2 Jay Fry 06.09.06 at 3:07 pm

I love the BEF combined with the flower. It’s Friday perfection!

3 snowdrop 06.09.06 at 3:07 pm

The hedgehog is such cuteness…
First? And new? Me? Maybe…

4 Theo 06.09.06 at 3:08 pm

Eau Emm Gee!
>> BLERT < <

5 A thinker 06.09.06 at 3:09 pm

oh my goodness!!!

Is it stuck on her spikes?

Precious!

6 snowdrop 06.09.06 at 3:09 pm

Nope.
But I love hedgehogs in flowers…

7 A thinker 06.09.06 at 3:10 pm

She doesn’t look to easy with that flower, a bit like, “What’s going on? Are they making fun of me? What is this *thing* on my head?”

8 alice 06.09.06 at 3:11 pm

Oh so cute! This is the cutest hedgie ever! I want to snorgle (with goggles, of course.)

9 alice 06.09.06 at 3:12 pm

Ok, let’s see – Juicy nose, high BEF, and ready to cha-cha!

10 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 3:13 pm

Schweet hedger, “moist nosicle” and all. He/she does look as if they’re thinking what A thinker thinks they’re thinking.

(Note to self: New business in hedgehog hats? Explore!)

11 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 3:15 pm

No need for goggles when snorgling the schnoot, methinks.

I want to do it NOW.

12 kariboo 06.09.06 at 3:17 pm

LOL. omg. that’s really, really cute. a little hippie hedgie.
i love the ‘w….t….f…. is this on my head’ look on it’s face!

13 alice 06.09.06 at 3:20 pm

Ooooh good idea, EC, hedgie-wear. Maybe some hedgie shoes – the cement looks a bit rough for Hedgie’s delicate little feet.

14 Meg 06.09.06 at 3:21 pm

Hey, with the spikes, there are really unlimited fashion potential—she could have a flower on each one and look like a 1950’s bathing cap!

15 tm 06.09.06 at 3:22 pm

i think he is more like “whatevs”. he must get dressed up a lot. sunday; roses, weekdays; daisys and saturdays, when he is feeling wild; a huge sunflower with a bee in it.

16 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 3:24 pm

Meg – Esther Williams, here we come! [hee.]

17 Schaaz 06.09.06 at 3:27 pm

Obviously a demonstration of cruelty to flowers. Flowers have souls and choices too, ya know!

18 hedgedog 06.09.06 at 3:30 pm

aw!
I was just wondering what to wear for dinner this evening…
I wonder why the “dressed up” pets always seem to have that adorable “WTF… But… How you DARE?” expression. SO CUTE!

19 ariel 06.09.06 at 3:30 pm

little sweetie!

21 Tony James 06.09.06 at 3:39 pm

If you’re goo-oing to San Francisco,
Be sure to wear a flower in your spines…

22 sonya 06.09.06 at 3:39 pm

Can we say, Photoshop?

23 alice 06.09.06 at 3:41 pm

LOL Meg – I hope the underside of hedgies aren’t spikey [squinting at picture]; otherwise, it would not be too pleasant to put on that bathing cap accidentally.

24 Tony James 06.09.06 at 3:44 pm

I don’t think hedgie undersides are prickly – if they were then then wouldn’t be able to roll up into a ball without getting kebab-ed…

25 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 3:46 pm

hedgie undersides are very soft and furry…

26 DLT 06.09.06 at 3:47 pm

JUICEH!

27 Elizabeth 06.09.06 at 3:51 pm

This hedgehog is, to me, a far cuter version of the old ‘maiden aunt.’ She just needs a little purse filled with dirty tissues to complete the ensemble. Oh, and a smoker’s cough :)

28 alice 06.09.06 at 3:52 pm

Ah (yeewouch!) good point, TJ.
I want to go find a pet store now and pet one, EC. Hm I wonder if they’re allowed as a pet down south.

29 alice 06.09.06 at 3:54 pm

Ah darn, they are illegal here.

30 VaCKo 06.09.06 at 3:55 pm

TJ – Not only would they be unable to curl up, they wouldn’t NEED to. The curling is to protect the soft underbelly, after all.

31 Tony James 06.09.06 at 3:57 pm

Vacko – true this, and it is the soft underbelly of the hedgie that is the holy grail snorgle-afficienado – the cute equivalent of a signed mint condition Mickey Mantle, maybe…

32 kariboo 06.09.06 at 3:58 pm

theo: oh crap. trick questions..they always trick me!!

wow..that mam’selle pic? that’s what i envisioned ‘veronica’ looking like (you know from that other crazy post…)

33 kariboo 06.09.06 at 4:00 pm

theo;…oh crap…wrong place…trick question was in the mini-frog thread…
need…more…coffee….

34 Mary 06.09.06 at 4:01 pm

TOO freakin’ cute!!!!! I love his wittle flower!

35 Zelda 06.09.06 at 4:04 pm

He looks a little startled by the flower on his forehead! VERY CUTE, and just what I needed. I need Cute on a cruddy morning.

36 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 4:12 pm

Ah yes, the hedges are blooming early this year..

37 Mike G. 06.09.06 at 4:18 pm

I tip my non-flowered cap to the other Mike G.

I can see that hedge saying, “What? No really, what is it? Do I have something in my nose?”

38 A Fine Morsel 06.09.06 at 4:22 pm

Why granny, your chapeau is simply to die for!

39 lauowolf 06.09.06 at 4:25 pm

No, really, tell me.
Does this make me look fat?

40 Theo 06.09.06 at 4:29 pm

Sonya — sure, we can say “Photoshop.” Just as long as that’s both the beginning & the end of the conversation.
http://www.squidgrid.com/cute/Glossary.htm#Photoshopped

41 Laurie C 06.09.06 at 4:35 pm

If a sticky-backed gift bow somehow (I’m not saying how, but certainly not in *any* way that could even *remotely* be construed as cat-abusing) got stuck on a cat’s head in exactly the same spot as that flower, the cat would back up around the room to try and get out from under it. I’m not saying this has ever happened, I’m just saying — Too. Funny.

42 A thinker 06.09.06 at 4:41 pm

tee. hee.

43 M- 06.09.06 at 4:42 pm

OMG!!! Thats adorable…

(Sung to Hippy Chick)

No hippy hedge
No hip hip hip hip hip
No hippy hedge
No hip hip hip hip hip
No hippy hedge
No hip hip hip hip hip
No hippy hedge

hehehehe jammin to Hippy Hedge… now THIS is a friday!!!

44 Leilani 06.09.06 at 4:47 pm

Awwwww! I love the crumbs on its little juicy nose!

45 Theo 06.09.06 at 4:49 pm

Hey, that song’s a beat loop comes from “How Soon Is Now” by the Smiths (aka the “Charmed” theme).

I am hedgehog, and I need to be lo-o-oved
Just like everybody else does.

46 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 4:51 pm

I have a flower
In my hair
And sharp spikes
Which some find criminally painful…

47 Theo 06.09.06 at 5:02 pm

[whips out hand mirror]
[applies dark eyeliner]

48 chackler 06.09.06 at 5:08 pm

Could be a cross-dressing hedgie caught in the act?

I need to break out Redzilla’s port-a-snorg and snorg away.

49 Soulfull 06.09.06 at 5:10 pm

Gosh, this is a sweet looking hedgehog! :)

50 Theo 06.09.06 at 5:12 pm

Chackler — don’t forget your snorgoggles!
http://www.squidgrid.com/cute/Glossary.htm#Snorgle

51 idonothingallday 06.09.06 at 5:22 pm

I think that Sonic the HedgeHog likes her…

52 Boschka 06.09.06 at 5:30 pm

LOL..got the hat..need the shoes….

Wait…

Hedgie Wedgies ?

Head explodes..

53 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 5:34 pm

I’ve never been inclined
On a coat of spines to recline
If into this truth you’re not buyin’
Trust me, it’s not for lack of tryin’

54 animal mommy 06.09.06 at 5:40 pm

Can it gte any cuter than this! Look at the wet wittle nose. *melts*

55 Theo 06.09.06 at 5:42 pm

Boschka — when you say “Hedgie Wedgies” the first image that pops into my head is not summer-wardrobe clogs, unfortunately…

56 Jes 06.09.06 at 5:45 pm

eeewww, mucous nose. I prefer my kitties’ dry noses.

57 Zelda 06.09.06 at 5:46 pm

Me too, Theo. Hedgie Wedgies sounds painful and embarrasing!

58 Connie 06.09.06 at 5:46 pm

Theo – [snort] since I had previously *only* thought of summer wardrobe clogs…

59 A thinker 06.09.06 at 5:48 pm

yes, sadly that was the first thing that popped into my head too, teho…

I couldn’t see how it related until I remembered: “SHOES”.

60 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 5:52 pm

I, too, needed to ponder that one a bit before the association became perfectly clear. (Wordy way of sayin’ that I thought the same thing you guys thought!)

61 jaypo 06.09.06 at 5:54 pm

What if the flower is the little thought-balloon for the hedgie… *poit*

62 Kristen 06.09.06 at 5:55 pm

There is a flower
Within my heart,
Daisy, Daisy!
Planted one day
By a glancing dart,
Planted by Daisy Bell!
Whether she loves me
Or loves me not,
Sometimes it’s hard to tell;
Yet I am longing to share the lot -
Of beautiful Daisy Bell!

Daisy, Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I’m half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won’t be a stylish marriage,
I can’t afford a carriage
But you’ll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle made for two.

We will go ‘tandem’
As man and wife,
Daisy, Daisy!
‘Peddling’ away
Down the road of life,
I and my Daisy Bell!
When the road’s dark
We can both despise
P’licemen and ‘lamps’ as well;
There are ‘bright lights’
In the dazzling eyes
Of beautiful Daisy Bell!

Daisy, Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I’m half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won’t be a stylish marriage,
I can’t afford a carriage
But you’ll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle made for two.

I will stand by you
In ‘wheel’ or woe,
Daisy, Daisy!
You’ll be the bell(e)
Which I’ll ring you know!
Sweet little Daisy Bell!
You’ll take the ‘lead’
In each ‘trip’ we take,
Then if I don’t do well,
I will permit you to
Use the brake,
My beautiful Daisy Bell!

63 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 5:58 pm

alice, the thing about hedgeshoes is that cement is *good* for wearing down hedgeclaws. Otherwise you’ve gotta clip ‘em and that seems to be *quite* a chore.

64 Christine 06.09.06 at 6:02 pm

I just want to say that I think this is the cutest picture ever posted on cute overload! Thanks.

65 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 6:04 pm

EC:
So, you clip hedgeclaws – that still means you can chomp bear claws, right?

And still write to Santa Claus – please?

66 Redzilla 06.09.06 at 6:05 pm

Is this hedgie’s name Petunia? Because if it isn’t, it should be. I would risk pricklage to snorg that belly.

67 jaypo 06.09.06 at 6:05 pm

Laurie C and AuntieM–just GUESS which continuous loop song was going through my head this morning as I got up…and was brushing my teeth…drinking my tea… But you know what? I didn’t mind because you were right, Laurie! It is a happy, jaunty kind of little tune and the lonely goatherd and yodelay hee hooo.

Ok, me done.

68 jaypo 06.09.06 at 6:06 pm

Bear claws!! Yummmmbo!

69 Rachel 06.09.06 at 6:07 pm

i think the hedgehog looks perfectly content :)

70 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 6:14 pm

Aubrey: as long at they’re the pastry sort, yes. [hee.]

71 gryt 06.09.06 at 6:16 pm

Perfect little do-it-yourself spring hat! She’s a cutie.

72 Laurie C 06.09.06 at 6:22 pm

Well, now you can rock me to sleep tonight, jaypo, for putting that song back into my head today. I had the “Daisy, Daisy” song in there for the past half hour till you posted about the goatherd again. Argh.

73 Laurie C 06.09.06 at 6:24 pm

Might as well update the lyrics, though:

“Down in the grass lived a lovely hedgehog…”

Take it away, jaypo!

74 Courtney 06.09.06 at 6:26 pm

Work is hell today. This picture made me smile and laugh. Hooray Cute Overload!

75 AuntieMame 06.09.06 at 6:27 pm

Ha, jaypo!

Now thanks for putting it in my head! (Actually, it’s a good thing, because what was playing in my brain is the annoying cell phone ringtone of the guy two cubes away…)

And yay for hedgies with flowers in their hair!

76 TheIdleReceptionist 06.09.06 at 6:30 pm

There once was a hedgie who trod
Upon these anerable paws
The flower that peer’d
Betwixt her hedgie ears
Made her look totally mod

77 jaypo 06.09.06 at 6:30 pm

Down in the grass lived a lovely hedgehog
itsy-bitsy pokey little stickeroo
A flower lived on the lovely hedgehog
itsy-bitsy pokey stickerooo

78 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 6:31 pm

“In A World of Youth Gone Wild -
With Sharp, Prickly Talk
And Hot House Emotions
Growing Unabashed,
With No Roots -
She Stood Alone
She Was:
Daisied and Confused!!!”

79 d 06.09.06 at 6:33 pm

flowers in her hair! Flowers everywhere!
I love the flower girl!!!!!

80 Laurie C 06.09.06 at 6:40 pm

High on the wall lived a bright green treefrog
Itsy-bitsy pokey little stickeroo
He yodeled down to the little hedgehog
“Itsy-bitsy pokey little stickeroo”

81 A thinker 06.09.06 at 6:43 pm

lol!!

82 jaypo 06.09.06 at 6:52 pm

O’brey, where’s the bear claws?! I’ve been waiting.

83 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 6:59 pm

Jaypo:
Next, I expect you to say, “Woman, make me a sandwich!”

84 jaypo 06.09.06 at 7:03 pm

…well, the coffee’s on. me a girl, anyway. Don’t do mantalk. ;-)

85 brownamazon 06.09.06 at 7:03 pm

To Kristen, re “Daisy”:

Michael, Michael,
Here is my answer true:
I can’t cycle,
It makes me black and blue.
If you can’t afford a carriage,
Call off the bloomin’ marriage,
Coz I’ll be damned
If I’ll be crammed
On a bicycle built for two!

86 Theo 06.09.06 at 7:07 pm

I *LOVE* MY C.O. PEEPS.
So very Yay!!
http://www.squidgrid.com/images/misc/yay_pic.jpg

87 Theo 06.09.06 at 7:09 pm

Wait, wups… what I *meant* to say was “SUP, MY BITCHES?”
[/panda-mantalk]

88 jaypo 06.09.06 at 7:14 pm

cwackin’ me yup, teho! :-p

89 alice 06.09.06 at 7:15 pm

Left right corner is begging for a hedgie (with a flower in her hair) ;)

90 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 7:16 pm

Well, we got some fine 9AM coffee over here (YYYAAAAYYY!!!) – between us ladies, JPo, it’s almost lunch time; could you make ME a sandwich (I left my lunch at home)?

91 Theo 06.09.06 at 7:17 pm

Alice — hmm, lemme think on that…

92 jaypo 06.09.06 at 7:25 pm

O’brye, here’s half my pb&j…yummy! Tastes better with friends!

93 alice 06.09.06 at 7:28 pm

(hehe I make no sense – top left corner, I meant)
Yumm – lunch!

94 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 7:40 pm

teho, I think you need to start a new yay! pic, because this one’s getting awfully papered-over… (hint, hint…)

95 chacha 06.09.06 at 7:42 pm

brownamazon, the perfect rebuttal! and all y’all other lyricists, this is so perfectly what I needed this gray Friday. Muchas gracias!

96 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 7:43 pm

Lunch – YAY
Ladies Who Lunch – YAY
Theo Talking Smack/Man/Panda Talk to Ladies Who Lunch – YAY

97 E. Collison 06.09.06 at 7:46 pm

YAY for everyone, plus hedgers! If they were legal in my state, I would have one.

I want lunch now….

98 jaypo 06.09.06 at 7:51 pm
99 Kristen 06.09.06 at 8:01 pm

BrownAmazon:

It would be worse if the hedgehog was sitting on the seat!

100 Aubrey 06.09.06 at 8:06 pm

“It wouldn’t be meet
If you sat on the seat
If the hedgie was there before you”

101 alice 06.09.06 at 8:16 pm

Oh no! All sort of horrible things happen to the poor peeps! (I’m glad to see that Peeps have no more luck using microfilm machines than I have *snicker*)

102 Theo 06.09.06 at 8:18 pm

The “Yay” pic has a few small repairs now.

E.C. — I won’t stop until it has at least 1,000 layers!!
MUHUAHAHAHAAAA!!!

103 mariser 06.09.06 at 10:40 pm

at some point I will have to buy a dual-core Pentium or whatever jus’ to load the YAY! pic.

104 Theo 06.10.06 at 12:31 am

LOL Mariser — no, the actual .JPG of the Yay pic stays pretty much the same size, ’cause I always render it down to a flat image from the raw source file. Now, if you wanted to open THAT thing…

(fortunately I am a total geekhead with handbuilt machines that could scoff quite safely at Intel’s puny dualies, except that I’ve taken care to teach them proper manners)

105 amanda 06.10.06 at 1:16 am

That is just the cutest thing EVER! OH MY GOSH!

106 E. Collison 06.10.06 at 1:22 am

“I won’t stop until it has at least 1,000 layers!!”

Maybe Theo is more Wizard of Oz than Mad Scientist? [not meant meanly *at all.*]

BTW, I’m so proud of all the wonderful C.O. peeps re. The Thread That Must Not Be Named. [giggles discreetly.]

107 ElfOwl 06.10.06 at 1:45 am

Sigh. Now that I work all day in a place where I can’t look at CuteO, I miss you guys so much. :-( I am totally addicted, and some day I wanna do lunch with all y’all.

Until then, I’ll keep slogging through the hundreds of comments I miss. Sigh. And console myself with the thought of net positive cash flow. I *guess* it’s worth it. ;-)

108 E. Collison 06.10.06 at 2:04 am

heya, ElfOwl, welcome back!!!

109 ElfOwl 06.10.06 at 2:24 am

Thanks E.C.!

110 A thinker 06.10.06 at 2:41 am

ElfOwl, *that* is too horrific to contemplate. I feel your pain.

111 Theo 06.10.06 at 2:48 am

[hootlet!]

112 Theo 06.10.06 at 2:54 am

E.C. — do you really think I want to direct attention *away* from the man behind the Yay curtain?
;)

113 ElfOwl 06.10.06 at 3:49 am

“hootlet”!!! Teho, I lurve you! The later I gets, the goofier I becomes. It’s FRAAAAAAAHHHHHHHDEEEEEEYYYYYY!

Dude, and I don’t even need to self-medicate with bunny creams to get loopy. I’m drunk on WEEKEND!

114 E. Collison 06.10.06 at 3:59 am

YAY ElfOwl!!!

115 Christy 06.10.06 at 4:04 am

SQUEEE!!! SO CUTE!!! LOVE YELLOW FLOWERS!!

116 ElfOwl 06.10.06 at 4:46 am

I keep coming back to this and loving it. Hedgies aren’t my faves, but that flower is just too wunnerfullz, and the FEET! The leetle hedgie FEEEEEET!

117 Meg 06.10.06 at 4:54 am

Té-oh,
Your “Yay” pic is no longer peeps with arms up!

The master formula, it has EVOLVED-AH

118 E. Collison 06.10.06 at 5:23 am

“Tée-o,” Meg, if you want to do it in French. (I dunno, really, I’m just making it up as I go along…)

BTW, the hedgewear is reminding me of the Queen Mum’s hats!

119 hrh.squeak 06.10.06 at 7:55 am

Happy happy joy joy, hedgies are My Very Favoritest Animal Ever and this is the best pic! Jaypo, thanks for the Peeps link, can I be the purple one?

120 Theo 06.10.06 at 3:53 pm

Meg – necessity is the mother of invention. ;)

121 ProfPbdy 06.10.06 at 4:41 pm

Move over Carmen Meranda here comes Carmen Erizo! Cha cha cha.

122 hrh.squeak 06.10.06 at 7:24 pm

Great. Now I’m sitting at the keyboard singing “Itsy bitsy pokey little stickeroo!” over and over.
My kitteh is confused, ’cause I usually sing to him, and he doesn’t have stickeroos.

123 jaypo 06.10.06 at 11:52 pm

ElfOwl, welcome back!

124 jaypo 06.10.06 at 11:56 pm

…better late than never, yes? Was happy to see your posts on Toby Uno.

125 ElfOwl 06.11.06 at 2:44 am

Definitely better late than never, jaypo :-) . All youz guys make me feel *heart*ed!
