Looks just like our family’s first pet, Spotty the grey striped tabby. She used to sleep double-tuckked after a catnip high… left us years ago….. or did she???? -add your own x-files theme music here :-)

    [SSSSCOWL]

…I note that Le Purr is demonstrating one of the classic Helpful Kitty maneuvers, i.e. sleeping on your reading material.

  9. Laura says:

Tabby cats always have such wonderful markings. I love how it looks like there is eyeliner around its nose. Ah, I also love the “M” above the kitty’s eyes….

  10. Jay Fry says:

    Beautiful tuckage! I lurvs it.

  11. Theo says:

The tabby’s “M” stands for “Master” (naturally).

  12. mariser says:

the mark of “M” for ‘Mahvelous’ dahlink

  13. jenni joon says:

Resistance is futile. (please say in automaton, flat-affect, robot-like voice)

  19. Tony James says:

YAY! The start of an All Kitty Thursday! Thank you, Meg! :)

  20. Aubrey says:

Theo, I also noticed some papers underneath kittie’s right fluffy fist. Could it be Feline Finals week?

  21. Susan says:

    That is a georgeous cat!!

  22. Leilani says:

    Awwww, beautiful silvery kitty!

  23. Kris, in New England says:

The nose, oh the sweet pink nose. And please – there is cheek puffage going on, it’s just a little squoshed by the paws – double curled paws.

And the eyebrows…falling over with the cuteness now.

  24. ElfOwl says:

That totally looks like what I did during finals with Plato’s Republic. :-P

  25. Rumi says:

I LOVE tabby kitties. I have one myself, Summer. She’s all gray and stripey, too. Love the “M”! In fact, I sent in some pics of her to Cute Overload some time ago…..hm, now why haven’t THEY been posted, lol? This kitty is adorable, but so’s my girl, and you should just SEE some of the positions she gets herself into, lol!

  26. Rafael says:

Cold, real cold…must tuck paws…ahh, much better.

  27. tegan says:

So adorable! I must have one!

  28. Aubrey says:

Dang – what a hangover…that pommy can throw one SAVAGE party!

  29. Zombie says:

I have only one thing to say.

    KITTEH!

  30. Dustbunny says:

“I’m sorry, professor, that I didn’t turn in my term paper today, but ya see, my kitteh was sleeping on it. She doesn’t like it when I wake her up…what could I do??”

  31. Gizmo says:

Dustbunny, you don’t KNOW how many times I have actually SAID:

“I can’t finish vacuuming the living room cuz kitteh’s asleep on the sofa in there…”

  32. Ellie says:

    Oh, the bliss!

  33. Christabel says:

OK, not to be a total skeptic, but I believe this kitty only has one paw tucked under. I think the left one is outstretched. I’m just sayin’…

    I mean, he’s still cute.

  34. punkpie says:

I agree with Michelle… his face looks like velvet!

  35. willendorf venus says:

    pwned
    by the
    pink nose

  36. Aubrey says:

    If Mothra was a cat…

(I hope someone has seen ‘Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster’, or else this comment makes no sense at all!)

  37. karen says:

Gizmo, I can’t make the bed until the cat gets up either. I just hate to disturb her!

  38. Annie D. says:

What a beautiful little guy! And I’m not saying that just because I have a particular weakness for gray and silver kitties.

It’s also that face, framed by those sweet little bent-under paws.

  39. regina says:

The kit’s adorable, but its yet another example of animals sleeping in positions that cannot possibly be comfortable :)

    reg

  40. ariel says:

    if it is uncomfortable,
a kitty does not do it.

  41. Laurie C says:

Christabel, I believe both paws are tucked under. The way the fur is fanning and flaring on the very left of the screen indicates the joint is bent, not straight. If the joint wasn’t bent, those hairs would be lying flatter.

(Many years of close observation of cats went into this post.)

  42. josh says:

    I sent them a double-fold (not a tuck, but still). I think it’s cute :)

  43. Theo says:

Josh — that’s a FANTASTIC Qute™ shot! Looks like the poor kit has a migraine, tho…

  44. sone says:

I agree, my caption for josh’s kitty is “Oy, my achin’ head!”

  45. lauowolf says:

So is this a Collapsed Catloaf?
At times a cat is so busy sitting perfectly that they fail to notice when they fall asleep.
This looks as if Kitty was sitting perfectly positioned, paws tucked under, and then someone let the air out of the cat.
(I have one who falls over on her nose on a regular basis.)

  46. A thinker says:

    Josh, wonderful shot!

I believe that is Cats ‘n’ Laps.

and LOL’ing at lauowolf’s cat “falling over on her nose” :D

  47. muse says:

I think it also helps if the sum of your paws is greater than your head.

  48. Theo says:

    Muse: ( 1 + 1 > 1 ) generally evaluates to TRUE

  49. Theo says:

    er… so does ( 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 > 1 ) and I need to go home now.

  50. Theo says:

Barely related… just saw this on B3ta.com — another “helpful” kitty:

  51. TwoShedsJackson says:

    Beauoootiful pusskat.
Sorry to do this but… the M on tabby cats is – legend has it- supposed to commemorate the prophet Mohammed. The word tabby is thought to come from a sort of watered silk from Baghdad which looks like tabby patterns. Sheesh – there’s just no room in my bonce for anything useful – too much useless info taking up space.

  52. Tony James says:

Lauowolf – the technical term for what you’re describing is felis deflatus, a condition that only now is becoming understood by the vetinary profession. It is understood to arise when the cat, weakened by lack of food, simply keels over in whatever position they were in to start with. While the visual is amusing to the lay person, I cannot stress the dangers of this little-known illness. The only remedy is immediate feeding of the cat (some believe that the illness is in fact a ploy by the cat to elicit food, but these theories are groundless). It is also imperative to take a picture of it as soon as it happens, and send it to Meg, in order that she can bring us an All-Kitty Day.

  53. TwoShedsJackson says:

Tony James – You do cause much chortalage!!

  54. Wendy says:

I agree with Cristabel, and I too have decades of kitty behavior observation under my belt: it looks to me like this sweet soft kitty has one paw tucked under and the other outstretched and turned over and is using it like a pillow. I have seen this position demonstrated by numerous kitties over the years.

Perhaps Matthew R. will clarify for us?

  55. Medic says:

    so cute…

  56. Adrian says:

awww it reminds me of my baby…my kitty has an M on his forehead too…and this morning because I haven’t seen him in months because I’m far from home my mom held him up on the webcam…and started making baby noises…which kind of freaked me out…
    but still…this cat is adorable

  57. Diane N says:

The M on tabby foreheads is CLEARLY a hidden reference to Mary Magdalene’s Marriage to Jesus. C’mon, haven’t you read/seen The Da Vinci Code yet?

  58. Theo says:

DianeN — no, that’s what the 3M company has been hiding. “Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing” my mooshy tuckus.

  59. Divergent Reality says:

    Double twenty.

I do believe that is a cricital hit sir.

  60. StarCat says:

The “M” Folklore can be found in different religions..just add your favorite diety. Islam legend tells us that Mohammed loved cats. One story says that he once cut off a sleeve of a garment when he had to leave to attend prayer, rather than to disturb his cat, Muezza, who was sleeping upon the sleeve. It is said that the reason he loved cats so much is that one once saved his life when a snake crawled into his sleeve. (This may be a variation of the well-known Muezza story.) Legend also claims that Mohammed bestowed on cats the ability to always land on their feet. A writing of Mohammed tells about his vision of a woman punished in Hell for starving her cat to death. These stories have all come down to the assumption that the “M” symbolizes the enormous esteem which Mohammed felt for cats and that the sight of the “M” on a cat’s forehead invokes memories of Mohammed. If you’re a christian/catholic, a tabby cat kept baby Jesus warm and Mary bestowed her initial on the kitty as a thank you! A sardine would have been nice!

  61. What a beautiful face, especially muzzle, on that kitcat
