Cute Overload :D
Why do they like bowls so much? Is it the comfort of feeling protected?
Thanks, Marija D., who sent in "Emma". Ahn.
oh my gosh
I want one
Second commet!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO CUTE
mmmmmm….I love white cats so much….they have something *magic*… Luve you cute overload…and a very hip salade bowl btw
i like my kitties how i like my apples…
…in a big orange bowl.
There’s a very cute children’s book, My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes, that doesn’t EXPLAIN the phenomenon but certainly illustrates it well!
I think they do it because they enjoy showing off their liquid-like ability to take the shape of their container.
I think they like bowls or anything round so they don’t have to concentrate on keeping curled up!
I’m an animal behaviorist in Tennessee. You’re right on, Meg. Cats like the protected feeling of small spaces that are enclosed on 3 or 4 sides. This comes from the instinct to eliminate the directions a predator could sneak up on them.
Omg! Look at thoose beautiful eyes!
Predators? I thought the kittens were the predators. Anyway, interesting.
A few sliced cucumbers and some balsamic vinegar. Toss. Serve.
why do cats like bowls so much? silly meg!
because they *lurve* to be a complete pain in the ass! what better way to do so than to sleep/lounge in things that will have to be cleaned before being returned to their primary purpose?
(this is why i keep my big bowls hidden away from my 3 anerable babies, but provide them with lots of boxes, crates, etc.)
aww so cute🙂
i read somewhere that if a white cat has blue eyes, it means it’s deaf… is that true?
Hey Meg, Congratts on getting link of the day at userfriendly.org…. I still have my Janet Jackson pig with the digitized nipple up in my office. Miss you!
Maybe we should have a Cats in Bowls category as well as Cats in Sink. =D
White cats are genetically predisposed to deafness. They can have eyes of any color, but if the eyes are blue, they are very likely to be deaf (if only one eye is blue, they’ll be deaf in that ear).
As for the containment issue, I don’t know if any of you sell Avon, but the delivery boxes that Avon uses (slightly deeper than printer paper boxes, but about as wide and long) are utterly irresistible to cats. I’m thinking of covering all the spare boxes that I have in fabric and selling them as kitty nests.
I don’t know about genetic predisposition… to me that’s just an amazingly pretty kitty. And more pets in pots, gotta love it.
Take one cat, preferably white– though whole wheat will work as a substitute– and toss with extra-virgin olive oil in a large bowl…
I just think it’s cute… no philosophy on why or how needed for me. I have cats, I KNOW why. 🙂
Such a cute cat!!!!🙂
Gorgeous kedi! I have six just like him.🙂
What gorgeous eyes!
Any animal that scoots into a little bowl lump like that is instant cuteness. It makes me want to put a blanket on them and hug them like the sweet little cuteypies they are.
Cute. Now, I must leave this place before I explode my brains out of cuteness!!!!!
Hee! One of my kittens used to love to crawl into plastic bags.
We could never leave them lying around, especially because once the one kitten would climb into a bag, her sister would sit on the opening and hold it shut. Sly.
k- you have evil kitties dude, I mean in a good way, but it was mean for a sister kitten to try to suffocate her sibling!!!!
“*heavy sigh* I’m bored. Anybody want to feed me? *heavier sigh*”
Ooooh luuurk at his purdy eyes! What a cute kittttty!
The Ghost of a little white kitten
Crying mournfully early and late
Distracted St. Peter the watchman
As he guarded the Heavenly gate.
“Say, what do you mean, “ said his saintship,
“Coming here and behaving like that?”
“I want to see Nellie, my mistress,”
Sobbed the wee little ghost of a cat.
“I know she’s not happy without me.
Won’t you open and let me come in?”
“Be gone,” gasped the Heavenly Watchman,
“Why, the very idea is a sin.”
“I open the gate to good angels,
Not to stray little beggars like you.”
“All right,” mewed the little white kitten,
“Though a cat, I’m a good angel, too.”
Amazed at so bold an assertion,
But aware he must make no mistake,
In silence St. Peter long pondered
For his name and repute were at stake.
Then placing the cat in his bosom,
With a “Whist now and say all your prayers,”
Peter opened the Heavenly portals
And ascended the bright golden stairs.
A little girl angel came flying.
“That’s my kitty, St. Peter, “ she cried.
And seeing the joy of their meeting,
Peter let the cat angel abide.
This tale is the tale of a kitten,
Dwelling now with the Blessed above.
It vanquished grim death in high Heaven
For the name of the kitten is “Love”.
The answer here is simple: kittens do this because they know it will cause us to ooh and ahh over them.
They’re shameless, they are.
She is adorable – such beautiful eyes.
Awwwwwwwww …. beautiful white cat with blue eyes!
maybe they like the curve shape of the bowl…comfortable. just like my hammy, he like sleeping at the corner of his cage.
Kitty is bYOO-terful. And yes, I think this is a variant of the cats ‘n’ boxes phenomenon.
There used to be a white kitty with blue eyes that hung out outside my old apartment. We didn’t realize he was deaf until we snuck up on him and scared him a couple of times. Then we ran a bunch of ‘experimental tests’ to see how much noise we could make until he’d hear us. I didn’t know that white kitties with blue eyes were usually deaf! Good to know!
PS. That white kitty was actually the first thing I thought about when I saw these pictures. He was a pretty awesome cat.
there should be a new section of cutenesses im dishes. i lurve the kitties. my late Jacopo loooooved to be in the sink. what a goof. hehe
I have brought this problem to the attention of the New York City Board of Certified Cutologists and Reptile Kissers and, upon deliberation, they provided this interesting explanation: “De puss love de bowlz- dey feel so smooth and cool and make de tiny brain vibrate in round wavelengths.”
I personally do not believe this explanation and I have the feeling that the Board is a poorly executed hoax.
Hey, that looks like my brother’s cat Oliver! That is cute, but I hope there’s no lead paint in that bowl…
Umm actually I have to ring in on the white cat + blue eyes = deaf, this is NOT always true. It can happen but it is not 100%, though they may have genetic anomilies that present in other fashions which is typically due to albinisim. I have a solid white cat at home, had her since birth, she is completely capable of hearing the Pounce container when shaken, the can opener, the water bottle and the “come snuggle” noise we give her. Somehow magically though she can’t hear “here kitty, kitty” when it comes to getting out of the bedroom before we try to go to sleep. Quite the mystery….🙂
That is a GORGEOUS cat with GORGEOUS eyes . So beautiful. So cute🙂
I wanna marry a cat one day!😀
Yes, I’m evil.
Yummy, delicious kitten! Just like with grocery shopping, I need to remember to eat before I visit this site!
As far as white/blue-eyed/deafness, you’re right it’s not 100%, but it’s close. I have one that looks just like our delectable subject here (except reversed eyes) and she’s deaf as a post. And LOUD! when she meows.
Kimberly—-That’s true, but I heard something to do with their gender also. I had an all white male w/blue eyes, I named Casper, and he wasn’t deaf. Maybe someone on here might be better informed on that (?) A very good point and one I’ve often wondered about.
hmm interesting. thanks for all the feedback guys!
Ohh, I can’t believe nobody’s picked up on this yet, so I will…
This kitty’s so adora-*bowl*!
Absolutely gorgeous kitty.
The blue eyes/deafness link is called Waardenburg syndrome, and it can occur in humans and animals:
What a gorgeous kitty! My first cat was a white odd-eyed (blue/green) polydactyl, and he had intact hearing. Now I have another white green/blue odd-eyed cat, normal toes, and he is completely deaf.
Anne god bless you, i believe your a wonderful soul for raising a deaf cat! I really look up to you, your just great person!
Actually I have a cat that looks EXACTLY like this one and he is not deaf. Researchers say that anywhere between 1.4% – 2.5% of the entire cat population is comprised of white cats with blue eyes who are not deaf… so they are pretty rare indeed.
Love these pictures!
