jaypo–with all due respect, some northern Canadian communities [mainly indigenous Inuit] depend on year-round fishing and hunting for their livelihood, including seal. They wouldn’t survive if it weren’t for the seal hunt.
Seals are killed quickly and humanely as possible.
There is a very large seal population which in turn depletes the cod population, which is another source of livelihood. Cull helps keep it under control.
yes, seals are cute. but it doesn’t make it wrong to kill them.

Okay, Roofies cute, big pic of ear is kinda gross. It’s not that it’s not…clean…just that it’s, well, gross.
PS: I’m on the fence about seal hunting, but coming from a rural background (picture twanging banjos)I can say that many species need to be culled or they either wreak havoc on the environment or starve in inclement weather. I don’t think seal hunting is a sport, but a way of life and sustenance.

Now I know I’m biased, because I am first and foremost a dog person. But I really think Rufus is one of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen in my entire life. What gorgeous, soulful eyes and such a silky soft smooth coat. This is perfection, people. Siiiiiigh……
Jeez, is there no limit to that dog’s cuteness? Look at the light-hearted mischief in those eyes. Makes me all ticklish on the inside!
While I lead a pathetic, dogless, small-apartment life, some people get to babysit Rufus. There is no justice in this world.

No one is protesting native peoples who need to kill seals to survive. Seriously, do a little research on Google. Jaypo is absolutely right that we ought to do something, though I’m not sure his/her comment was relevant here. This is not an issue of sustenance or culling overpopulated animals in any sense, and it should not go on as it does.
okay – instead of praying (haha) why don’t you get out there and do something about the seals being slaughtered in such a disgusting manner – the least you could do is sign a petition if it’s really something that is bothering you.

I’d just like to say that the seal hunt is a lot more complicated than people like to think it is. It’s like any controversial topic: it requires serious discussion and research. A simple google doesn’t cut it for research (I saw it on the internet so it must be true!) and I don’t think the comments on cuteoverload.com are the place for discussion. I come here to NOT think about complicated issues for five minutes.

He just learned to run and take a flying jump, about 3 feet high, and catch the frisbee. I am so proud of the little man.

We have never chewed on the Human’s ear. But one time while she was sleeping she had her mouth open and Cujo licked the inside of her mouth. Man, did she freak out! I don’t know what her problem was. Her breath smelled like last night’s pizza and he figured her teeth needed cleaning!

Here’s what happened. Sparkster was showing Roofies the interview he posted on CO. Roofus realized that he was TOTALLY misquoted and bit Sparkster to pay him back.

Actually, I picked up the Miss Bianca books (as many as I could find) a few years back, as stress relief. I’m a Margery Sharp fan, but had never read any of her kids’ books before. They were enchanting – and definitely some of her best work.
